In the realm of philanthropy and charitable giving, the act of supporting causes and organizations has taken various forms throughout history. Among these, the rise of monthly giving has proven to be a transformative force in sustaining and expanding the impact of charitable endeavors. Monthly giving, often referred to as recurring donations, plays a pivotal role in providing stability and continuous support for nonprofits, allowing them to plan and execute their programs more effectively.
While reunification is our number one priority, there are often many difficult scenarios the children will return - among the reasons they left in the first place.
That’s why Kwetu Haven is really just a first step. We at nisria are working hard to support families in poverty, and sometimes we learn about these cases through our rescue home.
nisria is a community based nonprofit located in Gilgil, Kenya. Since our founding in 2019, we have been working hard to create safe havens for vulnerable children and women. Our many programs focus on education, wellness, career development, shelter, and play. All programs provide different aspects of love, safety, and well-being for the families we serve.
Around 8 in 10 children in orphanages are not orphans. The reality is, children living in difficult circumstances are driven from home for many reasons.
Food insecurity ranks among one of the top reasons leading to institutionalized care for children (UNICEF, 2014). That report concluded: “It has been argued that families of most children in CCIs are poverty-stricken, and fail to adequately provide necessities such as food, health and education to their children.
Happy Upcycling Day! Upcycling means repurposing old items into something new, a sustainable way to use our resources to create economic, social and environmental benefits!
Our Maisha project is creating an alternative to the linear way of treating unused materials by upcycling and creatively reusing old pieces of clothing or fabric that are tattered, worn, broken, ripped, or frayed to give them new life so they can be worn or used again.
Our Maisha program is our fashion and design workshop in Kenya with a purpose to make a difference in the community. Our Maisha Workshop is located in Eagles Point Camp, overlooking Lake Elementaita in Gilgil. The goal of this new workshop is to provide a space to educate vocational trainees on fashion and design.
Quality nutrition is essential for a quality life, yet oftentimes this aspect is forgotten when it comes to helping those living in poverty. Many traditional food programs offer staples such as rice and oil, but don’t go so far as to provide a diverse diet. We want to change that.
This week we celebrate our Founder, Nur’s birthday! She is so thankful to be living her dream every day in pursuit of nisria’s mission - and couldn’t ever do this without you! Listen to her birthday message, and consider a gift in honor of another year running nisria!
It seems like only yesterday when I first visited the slums in Kenya. There were many firsts on that trip: for some kids, the first time they saw themselves using the screen of my phone; the first time they would see someone with my skin color; and my first experience seeing such desperate need, which seed planted to launch a project later known as Play 4 Smiles.
At that moment - seemingly with my late grandmother whispering in my ear - I knew I’d return to help these children. My grandmother, nisria, demonstrated true compassion and love for others, and I had it set in my heart to follow in her footsteps.
Ivone, 4, was rescued from trafficking after she was abandoned by her mother. She was about to be smuggled to another country.
